Balloch is an area of the new town of Cumbernauld, Scotland. North of the A80 road and west of Cumbernauld Town Centre, it is a residential area comprised of mainly privately owned homes. It was not built as part of the original new town, which is located south of the A80, but was built sometime after to accommodate the growing numbers of people who wanted live in the town which had become a successful commuter town to Glasgow.
The name of the area is derived from a tenanted farm holding of the Cumbernauld Estate of the Fleming family. It is a corruption of Scottish Gaelic bealach, meaning a pass in hills or mountains.
The area is now one of the largest in Cumbernauld, with several thousand dwellings.
