Chelmsley Wood

Chelmunds Cross is an overspill estate for Birmingham in the Chelmsley Wood complex. It is situated to the far-east of Birmingham in north Solihull. The estate was built in the late 1960s and is separated from the main Chelmsley estate which is at the heart of the complex by a dual carriageway (A452 Chester Road / Collector Road). There are however a number of flyover road bridges to connect the two estates and give easy access to the centralised shopping centre.

The estate is bordered by Chelmsley to the west, Bacon's End to the north-west and Smith's Wood to the north. It has 4 tower blocks in the north of the estate along Yorkminster Drive and is adjacent to the M6 & M42 motorways.

Tower blocks of the Chelmsley Wood Estates Edit

The Chelmsley Wood complex had 51 tower blocks until the late 1990s. The complex consists of 7 estates that are all closely linked to Chelmsley Wood. As of 2015 there are approximately 43 tower blocks left across the estates. Right next to Chelmsley Wood is Buckland End which has 2 tower blocks and Shard End which had 7 tower blocks, 6 of them being on Kitsland Road.
