Maple Drive V was a 5 storey tower block in the Johnstone Castle housing scheme in the Renfrewshire town of Johnstone, near Glasgow. It was one of a cluster of five in the top end of the scheme, located next to the Rannoch Woods. They were approved in 1959 and built in 1962 to house overspill from Glasgow's inner city slums, particularly Gorbals, the area Johnstone Castle was designated to rehouse. The block had a mixture of flats on the ground floor and maisonettes on the 2nd and 4th floors and were typical of the design of many 5 storey blocks in the West of Scotland. In 2001, the blocks, already half empty as a result of social problems felt throughout the estate, were found to be sinking. The blocks were built on an old mineshaft and the ground had begun to give way. The buildings were announced unfit for habitation and were emptied for demolition in 2003. They were then demolished one by one by a large digger in the summer of 2004. As of 2007, the land is still undeveloped.
