Robert Townsend (1910 - 1987) was an architect born in Bath, Somerset. He also lived in Durington, Wiltshire. His office was based in Bath although he worked on a variety of early postwar schemes across the country. These included 23 Hintlesham Avenue in Birmingham. His schemes were never large and all residential commissions were usually of a single property.

He was known to be an admirer of Frank Lloyd Wright, which is shown in the architecture of 23 Hintlesham Avenue.
