Trinity House is one of the 14 storey tower blocks that make up the Kirkgate Apartments in Wakefield. It was built in 1969 and is 43m tall. At the turn of the century, there were plans in place to demolish the flats however, with the shopping centre located underneath this would have proven to be a difficult and costly operation. Instead, Trinity House and the others were refurbished to an award-winning standard with yellow cladding applied to the exterior and extensive internal improvements carried out in an attempt to make the blocks desirable places to live. The icing on the cake was the installation of a pitched roof that was partially made of glass. At night, a light iside lights up the roof in a spectacularly innovative feature and making the Kirkgate Apartments the focal point of Wakefield's skyline.
